HOW PSYCHOTHERAPY CAN HELP ADHD
Medication alone is not a cure for ADHD and some argue it is not a option and choose to take more alternative routes. Should you choose to use medication it is recommended that it be used in conjunction with therapy or coaching, whereupon the outcome can be very promising. If you are opposed to the use of medication, I still strongly encourage therapy. I have worked with many clients who choose this route as an alternative. I am able to not only provide appropriate therapy yet also work with you on diet, supplements and alternative suggestions for the management of ADHD symptoms outside of medication. Therapy can have immense beneficial effects in dealing with the following ADHD symptoms:
Emotional Regulation (being more in charge of emotional reactions)
Distress Tolerance
Self esteem issues that stem from living with ADHD
Issues with interpersonal effectiveness and relating with others
Time management and procrastination
Impulsivity and difficulty focusing
Sleep disturbances
Challenged communication skills
Difficulties with organization and productivity at home, work and school.
Anxiety and hyperactivity
Sleep disturbances
Coaching sessions can also be quite effective through:
Assisting the client in setting up systems in their life to manage and live more efficiently with ADHD.
Coaching the family to manage ADHD in the home.
Coaching spouses on understanding their ADHD partner and cohabiting with the challenges of being with someone with ADHD.
